A good thing about going through a bad mood swing is that you can always boost it or improve it with little effort. You need to have a desire to improve your mood first of all. Sometimes we just prefer to wallow in sadness and depression and don’t make much effort. So realize that you’re going to through a bad mood and decide to change it for good.

01. Decide to improve your mood. This is the very first step you need to take if you want to boost your mood. Make a conscious effort. Recognize your problem and only then you can deal with it.

02. Write to a family member. See my advice above regarding email. Choose someone with whom you haven't corresponded in a while and tell them how much you love them, or appreciate their being a part of your life. Or, tell them a joke. Whatever cheers you up.

03. Talk to somebody you love. Call up your mom, or you sibling, or your best friend, or your lover and have a nice talk. if that’s not possible, talk to your anonymous Internet stalker through chat. You can also talk to your dog.

04. Forgive yourself. Write down one thing you think you did "wrong" in the past, or one way in which you think you are falling short, and let it go. Completely. If you aren't convinced that you should be forgiven for the alleged transgression, then pick an easier item for self-forgiveness.

05. Stay away from emotional suckers. Stay away from people who are always unburdening all their troubles on your shoulders. It doesn’t mean not being there when your fiends need you, but if it becomes a long-winded litany of woes that never seems to end, make it clear that you need some break to get your energies back.

06. Take a bath or a shower. Maybe you already cleaned up once in the morning, but a soothing bubble bath or a quiet afternoon shower can be just the ticket to a fresh outlook on the rest of the day.

07. Be in the company of positive people. You don’t need to be alone after politely distancing yourself from emotional suckers. Seek the company of those that have positive outlook towards life, their surroundings and their work. They will immediately cheer you up and help you improve your mood.

08. Don’t look down upon yourself. If something bad has happened and if you feel you are to blame for it, then blame yourself for a while, learn from your mistake and move on. Self-flagellation is OK for a while but too much of it is counter-productive.

09. Stay away from emotional suckers. Stay away from people who are always unburdening all their troubles on your shoulders. It doesn’t mean not being there when your fiends need you, but if it becomes a long-winded litany of woes that never seems to end, make it clear that you need some break to get your energies back.

10. Get organized! Sometimes clutter can make one feel overwhelmed and mildly depressed. If you are at the office, use your lunch hour to tackle some of the piles and stuff crammed in your desk drawers. At home, take on one room, or space at a time. Perhaps your entry area where the bills/keys/coats get left would be a good place to start. Getting things in place can ease your mind and bring a smile to your face too!

11. Seek God. Yes, the word invites a smirk but this does help, if your religious feelings haven’t completely evaporated. The thoughts of God are normally pure, clean and full of light. They immediately lighten your dark mood and helps you see your surroundings in a positive light.

12. Plan a lunch or dinner date. Put something on the calendar a few days ahead of the present - with a friend or with a date. This will give you something to look forward to, not only to share the company, but maybe to try a new restaurant, as well?

13. Change your routine. The same routine, although increases your efficiency and expertise, also gets tedious and boring after a while and this consequently affects your mood adversely. Try to change your routine. Do something different. Get up late or early and try to do old things in new ways.

14. Set small, achievable goals. Oftentimes, if our busy lives are broken down into more manageable tasks, we can feel happiness at minor accomplishments. Instead, so much of our days may seem like endless loops without end or reward. So tell yourself that you will complete 3 reports at work this week, or that you will cook 2 homemade dinners. Gold stars when you do!

15. Exercise. It helps you detoxify your body and brain and boost blood circulation. Go for a jog or a long walk or take your dog to the nearby park (while making sure you don’t give your dog a heatstroke). You can also try yoga but be careful what yoga postures you can easily manage.

16. Start a journal. It can be a gratitude journal, recommended by Oprah, or any kind of writing in which you relate your thoughts of the day. Sometimes just getting it out releases some of the negative energy. This brings me to...

17. Do deep breathing. Deep breathing fills your body up with lots of oxygen. This energizes both your brain and your body.

18. Forgive someone. You can start by privately forgiving a person that may have hurt you, but try to take this a step further by writing a letter and offering forgiveness, as well. Unless you desire to put 100% of the disagreement behind you - this means no hint of accusations, etc. - tread very carefully to make sure that all involved understand that the white flag has been raised and the battle is over.

19. Have a nice sleep. You may also feel depressed and drained if you’re not well-rested. Have a nice sleep and before going to sleep switch off all your phones and the alarm clock. Don’t wake up unless your body wakes up on its own. You will feel rejuvenated.

20. Smile along the way. Gas station attendants, taxi drivers, baristas, grocery clerks - all of these people enter our lives each day and we have an opportunity to try to brighten their day and just possibly have the favor returned. A genuine smile and "thank you," seem to be endangered species in our rush to get the dry cleaning and pick up something for dinner before 7:00 p.m. Slow down and reconnect, from time to time.

21. Watch some comedy serials and movies. This is for short-term improvement for your mood. No matter how silly that sitcom is and doesn’t matter if you have to deny in front of others that you watch it, if you like it, watch it.

22. Laugh. The simple act of laughter releases endorphins and is shown to improve your mood. Even smiling will have that effect. I like to save some of the funny email jokes that get forwarded to me for just these times. If you need a nudge, here's a few links to get you started. I've included my personal favorite comedian, Ellen DeGeneres. You simply can't keep a straight face listening to her. For more fun, check out:

23. Re-read an old book. Do you have book you really enjoyed reading many years ago and it really made you feel good? Read it again. Reading a book you fell in love with once can really draw you away from your current mental disposition and alter your mood for better.

24. Paint your nails or shine your shoes (or both!) Buff what you've got. Put a little shine on. Take a little extra time in the morning getting ready and be proud of the results. I recall reading in some trivia that one purchase that women invariably make to improve their mood is a tube of lipstick. Well - get out there and buy some "Paradise Pink" or "Rhumba Red," then! For those of you that believe a suntan is pretty, then let's do it safely, ladies! Fake (in this instance) is good!

25. Indulge in your favorite hobby. Do you love pottery or painting, or making crank calls to your neighbors. Although due to caller IDs making crank calls isn’t any more possible, you can indulge in other hobbies. Your mood gets a boost when you look at your creations and feel satisfied about them.

26. Tell someone that you love them. This is best accompanied by a hug and a kiss. Start with your spouse, significant other, boyfriend, girlfriend, and kids, if you have them. Include parents, siblings, and other relatives. Continue on to other important people in your life. Pets too! You can always get a positive reaction from your dog. I can't really promise as much from a cat, though. But try!

27. Stick to healthy eating habits. Like of vitamins and other minerals can cause dark moods too. Carefully analyze your food intake. Does it contain all the vitamins, minerals, proteins, etc. that your body and brain need to keep you fit and energized? If possible get an appointment with a nutritionist to create a healthy menu for yourself and your family.

28. Brighten up your house. Draw the curtains aside and let the sunshine come in if it’s not very hot in your area. Natural light helps you improve your mood and kills the staleness inside the house. You will immediately feel a change of surroundings. Things and objects that were looking dark and gloomy we suddenly lighten up.

29. Meditate. Find a quiet place and about 10 minutes all to yourself at the beginning or end of the day. Unplug your cell phone and avoid or limit any other interruptions, if you can. This would be a good time to practice the breathing exercises above. Just sit by yourself and listen to your breathing. "Observe" your thoughts, but try not to judge them during this quiet time.

30. Compliment someone. Give an honest, heart-felt compliment, in person, to someone deserving. It has to be given to them directly, or it won't have the same uplifting effect for both of you. Trust me.

Pining for long, shiny locks, but don’t know where to start? Long, thick hair looks beautiful worn naturally or pulled back in an up-do for special occasions. Trouble is, some people struggle to grow long, thick hair because they don’t know where to begin. Here’s how to grow the long, thick hair you’ve always wanted.
It takes a huge commitment to grow your mane amazing lengths. But it can be done! Below, are the top 10 tips to achieving length in the least amount of time.

01. Keep it clean, but not too much. Wash your hair every few days — do not overwash. Washing hair too often pulls the strands, damages the scalp, and rids your hair of the natural oils that are essential for growing long, thick hair.

02. Wear protective styles every single day. No exception. This means French rolls, buns or other types of updos where your hair ends are not exposed to the air.

03. Use moisturizing products only. Learn about the ingredients in shampoos and stay away from harsh shampoos. Try brands by Neutrogena, Nexxus, Keracare.

04. Use hair irons and curlers sparingly. Avoid using curlers, hot rollers, curling irons, or straightening irons. They all cause hair to dry out, and hair can’t grow longer than its damaged ends.

05. Treat your hair like super fine lace! Be gentle and take your time when combing, detangling, and styling.

06. Trim it up. It may seem counterintuitive, but as your hair grows in, return for regular trims every 6 to 8 weeks to keep hair healthy, strong, and in the best condition to grow long. Ask your stylist to apply a salon-quality conditioner to keep hair smooth and strong.

07. Eliminate any and all types of heat. Put away the curling iron. Hide the flat iron. Put the blow dryer in the back of the closet. They will not help you reach your goal.

08. Tie it back. At night, tie back hair in a ponytail or braid, then roll into a bun and tie it up. This protects hair from pulls and knots while you toss and turn in your sleep. Use soft cloth hair ties — never elastic! — and secure gently.

09. Do not play in your hair. Style it for the day and leave it alone. Constantly fussing with it will only make it dry which leads to split ends.

10. Go for the natural look. Skip permanent waves or straightening treatments. While these may give the illusion of long, thick hair temporarily, they damage hair and prevent it from growing thick and long on its own.

If you're serious about growing long hair fast, I hope these tips will be a reference guide for how you can do it. Remember, it takes a commitment and is not something that can happen overnight. You must commit to taking better care of your hair for a long time and not give up because you don't see results as quickly as you'd like. Stick with it and I can guarantee you'll see results!

10 Healthiest Foods To Eat

Wednesday, December 1, 2010 0 comments

Cleaning up your diet and eating healthier is often just a matter of knowing where to start. Unfortunately, many people think that a healthy diet is only about removing foods, not adding them in.
This healthy food list consists of foods that are nutrient dense. That is, they have more nutrients per calorie than most other foods. They have also been proven to contain vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that prevent disease: from cancer to heart disease to arthritis, and many more.
All of the foods below are nutritionally-dense and are loaded with either antioxidants, lean protein, fiber or heart-healthy fats. In some cases, they’ll have all four. Even better, most of the foods on this list are low in calories compared to their volume, which means you’ll feel fuller and more satisfied after eating them.

01. Beans:
Canned, dried or re-fried, it doesn’t matter, beans are wicked good for you.
Like oatmeal, beans are extremely high in fiber, which keeps you regular and may also reduce the risk of certain cancers and heart disease.

Beans are also very versatile and come in a wide range of varieties, all with slightly different textures and flavors. The best approach is to eat a variety of different beans, including black beans, pintos, kidney beans, cannellini beans and Garbanzos (chickpeas).

Why?
Because along with that protein and fiber, beans are also very high in antioxidants, the chemicals which give beans their distinctive color and may help neutralize free radicals that can cause cellular damage in the body. By eating plenty of different colored beans, you are taking advantage of the full spectrum of phytochemicals unique to each variety.

Beans are very versatile and can be added into all kinds of recipes. Including them alongside grain-based foods (like pasta) or rice results in a complete protein. Beans can be added to pasta dishes, rices, soups and even made into salads.

02. Nuts:
Walnuts are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, a special type of fat that is essential for our bodies, but that the body cannot produce. Omega-3 essential fatty acids protect us against heart disease.
Almonds are also known for their ability to help lower LDL cholesterol levels.

03. Turkey:
Turkey is one of the leanest protein foods and is low in calories, making it an excellent healthy food choice. Turkey also contains selenium which has been shown to inhibit cancer development, improve the immune system, and aid in the metabolism of our thyroid hormone.

04. Berries:
Berries are extremely rich in antioxidants which help protect the cells in our bodies from damage and therefore from diseases like cancer. Among other things they are also an excellent source of Vitamin C and soluble fiber. Blueberries might help reverse the short term memory loss that often comes with aging.

05. Fish:
However, aside from canned and frozen fish, fresh fish wasn’t widely available to landlubbers until a few decades ago, when improvements in shipping made it possible for even people in Kansas to get fresh fish at the grocer.

What’s so great about fish?
Fish is high in polyunsaturated Omega-3 fatty acids — specifically eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)– a class of healthy fats that research has shown may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. These healthy oils in fish can also improve circulation, discourage blood clots, reduce blood pressure, alleviate some symptoms of acute and chronic inflammatory disease, as well as possibly improve mood.
While fresh fish is preferable, don’t forget about frozen fish as well as canned varieties like salmon, tuna and mackerel which can make it easier and more convenient to include more fish in your diet. Canned fish is higher in sodium, so if that’s a concern go easy on the canned, and opt instead for frozen or fresh.

06. Spinach:
Spinach's secret weapon, lutein, makes it one of the best foods in the world to prevent cataracts, as well as age related macular degeneration, the leading cause of preventable blindness in the elderly.

07. Oats:
Oats also help reduce cholesterol. Research shows that one bowl of oatmeal per day can reduce cholesterol by up to 23%. Oats are also considered an excellent grain for diabetics as they have less impact on blood sugar levels than some other grains.

08. Garlic:
Numerous studies have shown that regular consumption of garlic can lower our blood pressure. It also prevents the blood from being overly sticky and decreases LDL cholesterol (the "bad" one) while increasing the good HDL cholesterol.

10. Salmon:
The Omega-3 fatty acids in salmon and other fatty fish may help prevent heart disease and stroke by lowering the body's rate of blood clotting.

Best 7 Ways To Get Six Pack Abs

Sunday, November 28, 2010 0 comments

If you want to get six pack abs, you will need to address three very important aspects of your life – your diet, the amount of time and effort you put into your exercise regimen (which means you need to START one if you haven’t already), and your over-all lifestyle.

Here’s a list of top 7 things you can do to improve on your daily habits. You can start with whichever one you like, but it’s important that you incorporate ALL of them into your fitness program.

01. Aerobic Exercises: Aerobic exercises (Do it just long enough) such as jogging, swimming, brisk walking and skipping can be performed for longer time. You can also use treadmill, but to put little stress on the knees and joints, you can opt for a stationary bike.
Aerobic exercise burns calories and fat. That is why aerobic exercises should be incorporated in your exercise plan to get the benefits it provides.
Aerobic workouts can be done for around twenty minutes, four times a week to get good results. You can do for longer periods depending on your current conditioning. But don’t extend for too long as it may cause harm than good for getting six pack abs.

02. Low-Fat Diet: Eating meals with minimal fat content is probably one of the most effective ways to get six pack abs. Let me make myself clear – fat isn’t the enemy. It’s the ridiculously big amounts and unhealthy types of fat you eat that are keeping you from the body you deserve.

03. Drink Plenty of Water: Drink plenty of water, as your body gets dehydrated while exercising. Nothing substitutes water and our body needs as much as it needs air. Water only satisfies your thirst, but also helps your system to stay cool. You should drink water throughout the day. It helps your body to continue the function properly and helps in getting the toxic substances out of your body.

04. Reduce Alcohol Intake: Frequent consumption of alcoholic beverages in large amounts can only set you back. If you want to get and maintain no nonsense 6 pack abs, try to avoid alcohol at all cost. It’s like drinking sugar but worst since it has almost TWICE the calories…OUCH!

05. Sleep Well: If you perform the exercise well and follow proper diet with lack of sleep, you are not going to get any results. As your body gets tired after the workouts, it needs rest to recuperate from the workouts. In the rest period, the body recovers and it will be ready to perform on another day.

06. Say No To Junk Food: Even those that claim to have vitamins and minerals aren’t really sufficient sources of nutrition anyway, so why even bother? Opt for fresh vegetable sticks, nuts, and berries when you snack – they’re tasty, healthy, and quite filling.

07. Weight Training (more repetitions per set to get six pack abs): By lifting weights, the body mass or muscle mass is increased. Muscles require more calories for maintenance. The more muscles you have the more number of calories your body burns while at rest and will be capable to feed on the fat around your abdomen.
Weight training for getting nice abs requires more number of repetitions with light weights. To gain muscle weight and density, you increase the weight that you lift whereas to get nice abs, you take light or moderate weights and increase the intensity by the way of increasing the number of repetitions. In this way your body works on some aerobic workout which adds to your calorie burning process.
Aerobic exercises slow down its calorie burning effect after the actual exercise, but weight training will be able to stretch your calorie burning process a little bit more.

12 Great Ways to Burn Calories

Wednesday, November 3, 2010 0 comments

Seems like a tall order but there is a handy formula for balancing your energy equation. If you want to calculate how many calories burned in a day you need to know a few things before you can proceed. A major key in weight loss is consuming fewer calories than we burn. Do this by eating fewer simple sugar products, like candy, cookies, and other sugar based products, and by eating fewer foods that contain white flour, like white bread, donuts, pizza, and bagels. Instead, opt for whole grain foods, non processed foods, low sodium foods, lean proteins, green vegetables, high fiber foods, and plenty of fresh fruits!

Here we have twelve great ways to burn your calories.
01. Instead of riding elevators or escalators, take the stairs.
02. At the supermarket park farther away from the door as you usually would. Take a couple extra laps around the market too if you have the time.
03. Instead of plopping down on the couch during "One Life to Live", do some house chores or better yet go for a nice brisk walk.
04. If you take the bus or the subway, stand in the aisle and let someone else have your seat.
05. Instead of going out to dinner, go out and walk, rollerblade or even play pool.
06. At work, instead of taking coffee breaks, take walk breaks!
07. If possible once or twice a week, ride your bike or to the gym.
08. Instead of sitting back and watching your children play, get on the floor and play with them.
09. Instead of letting the dog out to roam the yard, take the dog for a walk.
10. Cut the grass with a push mower.
11. When you watch TV, lie on your back and do some leg lifts or some isometrics with your arms while watching.
12. Wash the floors because it burns more calories than other typical house chores and uses many muscle groups. A clean floor isn’t so bad either. Just be careful of your knees.

You won't lose any weight at all if you don’t know how many calories your body needs to burn daily. Strive to burn calories efficiently when you are trying to lose weight!

The number of people who have diabetes is on the rise. More and more people are overweight and leading an inactive lifestyle which makes it more likely for one to develop diabetes. If you have diabetes, you have to think of some natural ways to lower blood sugar with you since your body cannot process insulin or simply does not produce enough of it.Insulin processes the sugar or glucose from the food you eat and provides the energy to fuel your body. When the glucose is not processed through the body it stays in the blood therefore raising the amount of sugar in your blood. This condition is referred to as high blood sugar or hyperglycemia. This is a dangerous situation as it starves the organs that need the glucose and harms other organs that are receiving too much blood sugar. This condition damages the eyes, nerves, kidneys and blood vessels.

Among the three types of diabetes, diabetes type 2 is more common. More than 90 % diabetics are suffering from this type of diabetes. In this type of diabetes the pancreas of the body continues to produce insulin but the cells cannot process the glucose effectively. Milder cases of this type of diabetes can be controlled by weight loss, diet and exercise.

Five easy safe ways to lower blood sugar levels

01. Lose weight: Your blood sugar will be much easier to control if you get your weight down to normal levels. Follow your diabetic diet meal plan carefully and exercise regularly.

02. Exercise: Incorporate more physical activity and exercise in the daily routine. Going for walk is the easiest way to burn extra blood sugar. Mowing the yard, brisk walk and other household works are the good choices of exercise that help to regulate blood sugar levels.

03. Diet: Intake of low carb diet is perhaps the most well known way to reduce blood sugar level. Good examples of low carbohydrate foods include soy milk, pearled barley, and kippered herring. High fiber foods such as dry beans, oatmeal, bran or raisin bran cereal, whole grain bread and peanuts help to manage diabetes. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

04. Supplements: People with diabetes more than likely have a zinc deficiency. Take a supplement or eat more foods that contain zinc to help to bring down blood sugar level. Chicken and sardines are a couple of foods that are good sources of zinc. Six ounces of cinnamon a day is believed to keep down sugar level naturally, it is also available in capsules if you prefer to take it that way.

05. Relax: Getting good quality sleep is another method of relaxing. Inadequate rest also triggers the body to malfunction and it becomes unable to process the glucose effectively.

There are many more things you can do to improve your health and have a better life with diabetes. Always tell your doctor about any supplements you are taking. Do not stop taking your diabetes medicine without your doctor’s permission.

How to Cut Your Breast Cancer Risk

Thursday, October 28, 2010 0 comments

Breast cancer research offers more and more evidence that you can influence your own breast cancer future by picking up some good habits—and your age says a lot about which habits are key.
The first question every woman needs to answer is "Am I at high risk?" If you are, you should be screened earlier and more often and ask about taking tamoxifen or raloxifene (Evista), a newer estrogen-suppressing drug with fewer side effects. Both can reduce your chances of getting breast cancer.

More than 70 percent of women with breast cancer, however, have no known risk factors. The likelihood you'll be diagnosed with breast cancer and the type you get also depend on your stage of life -- how old you are and whether you're before or after menopause when the cancer hits. Breast cancer in younger women tends to be the more aggressive HER2 or triple-negative malignancies. Older women are more susceptible to hormone-sensitive tumors; they're also more likely overall to get breast cancer.

The following decade-by-decade guide suggests a few steps that every woman can take to protect her breast health, with extra emphasis on monitoring any changes so that problems can be caught early, when cancer is easier to treat.

Here’s what you can do to cut your breast cancer risk.

* Minimize Estrogen Exposure: Estrogen plays a huge role in the development of most types of breast cancer because it stimulates the rapid growth of cells in breast tissue. Over the years, cells that grow faster can mutate and become cancerous. The cumulative effect of estrogen may be the reason that some 77 percent of breast cancer occurs in women 50 and over, and about 60 percent of primary breast cancers are hormone dependent, which means they grow in response to estrogen and/or progesterone. Any factor that prolongs your exposure to estrogen ups your risk of breast cancer: hitting puberty early (before age 12) or starting menopause late (after 55), having children after age 30 or not at all, and obesity.

* Get Regular Exercise: This can cut your breast cancer risk in half. Brisk walking just three to five hours a week will do it; so will jogging or cycling. Exercise boosts immune function, bolstering the body's ability to fight off cancer, and reduces the overall amount of tumor-fueling estrogen the body produces over a lifetime.

* Watch Your Weight: An estimated 10 to 24 percent of all postmenopausal breast cancers are thought to be due to obesity or weight gain. Estrogen is stored in fat and therefore obesity increases levels of estrogen. The greater the weight gain, the worse the odds: Women who put on more than 60 pounds are up to three times as likely to get advanced metastatic cancers as are women who are not overweight.

* Check Your Breasts: While no scientific evidence proves that monthly breast self-exams are necessary, experts still encourage women to become familiar with the appearance and feel of their breasts and report any changes. Cancers in younger women -- one in five hits women under 50 -- tend to be more aggressive, making early detection even more crucial. Make sure, too, to get a clinical breast exam from your doctor every three years if you're under 40 and every year if you're 40 or older.

* Get Regular Screening Mammograms: These find tumors at earlier stages than other detection methods, says the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center's Donald A. Berry, PhD. Nearly 70 percent of women over age 40 now get regular mammograms, up from 29 percent in 1987. If you have no family history of breast cancer, get one every year starting from age 40.

Getting yearly mammograms helps pick up small tumors not caught by previous exams. Some doctors recommend that women with very dense breast tissue get additional breast tests, such as an ultrasound or an MRI. If you're under age 50 or have dense breast tissue, you may want to ask about digital mammograms, which are up to 15 percent more sensitive than traditional film mammograms at picking up cancers in these groups, the American Cancer Society says.

There is no difference between premature babies and preemies. Both terms are used interchangeably in articles, preemie stores, medical staff, growth charts, or any other medium of communication or reference. For at least two years after the premature birth of your child, there is special care that you should take for your child to keep them constantly out of danger and away from all kinds of ailments and illnesses. You must develop a right set of parenting guidelines to help your child best.As far as the growth and development of your prematurely born baby goes; the usual advice given to parents is that they feed them a lot of vitamins and iron to help them develop as strong babies and stay as healthy as they can.
Premature Babies face many challenges that full term babies often escape. This includes the possibility of being born with organs that are underdeveloped. Many premature babies have respiratory problems, as the lungs are generally one of the last organs to develop completely during gestation.

The feeding schedule of your premature baby is also very rapid. For the first few months your child will need at least eight to ten feeds a day and there should not be a gap of more than three to four hours between each feed as otherwise your child’s body could get dehydrated. Your child should consistently be gaining weight; if you see that they have stopped doing so then contact your doctor immediately. You can switch to giving your baby solid food after about six months of their due date; not the date that they were actually born.

Discuss with your doctor about feeding the premature baby. He may recommend vitamins, iron and special formula if the baby is bottle-fed. Doctors give vitamins to premature babies to help them grow and stay healthy. The doctor may also prescribe extra iron for a premature baby for at least four months. At four months of age a premature baby will have about the same amount of iron as a full-term baby, however, your doctor may still have a premature baby take iron drops for a year or more.

Premature babies need a lot of care and attention after leaving the womb so this is why we give thanks to the world of modern technology and to all the life saving masters in the medical profession that nurture our before-time babies with their knowledge, thus increasing the odds for their survival. Hospitals today are well equipped to deal with emergencies like early births. The welfare of the premature baby is first and foremost in all hospital maternity wards.

The chances of a child developing food allergies may be increased if that child is conceived in the early spring, a preliminary study by Finnish researchers suggests.

Earlier studies have shown that children born in autumn or winter than in the eczema, and wheeze than children born in spring or summer are likely to asthma, the researchers noted.

The new discovery could be many reasons, chief researcher at the University of Oulu Institute of Health Sciences, including the concentration of pollen in spring, sun exposure, which is related to the synthesis of vitamin D. Dr how Pyrhonen said and viral infections.

"These interpretations are possible, but our study design because the role of the above factors did not allow any assessment" Pyrhonen said.

Pyrhonen preliminary study said the findings are specific to families should not plan around the time of conception. "Because our study was an observational study, we can not give any recommendations to the families" Pyrhonen said.

Report October 20 Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health is published in the online version.

Study, Pyrhonen Team 5920 Finnish children born between 2001 and 2006 to collect data. From birth to four years, 961 of these children were tested for food allergies.

By the age of 4, a food birth season, to 9.5 percent in June and July for those born in October and November for children born from 5 percent according to the odds of getting various allergies, the researchers found.

In fact, children whose growth was the 11th week during April or May had food allergies, 11 percent of children who reached that level in December or in January, the 6 percent growth compared with that found Pyrhonen group.

Specific allergies, a child whose first embryo development finished in April or May was three and three months is likely to be allergic to milk and that the level reached in November or December, compared with eggs often, researchers that in the context.

Commenting on the study, Dr. Erick Forno, an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, said there could be a variety of reasons for this finding.

“But what is important is that we are understanding more that there are environmental factors that at some point during pregnancy play an important role in developing the immune system that predisposes the kid to have either food allergies or environmental allergies or asthma or eczema or something of that sort,” he said.

Forno cautioned that this was an observational study (a type of study in which people are observed or certain outcomes are measured and no effort is made to affect the outcome — for instance, no treatment is given). “So there may be other things that these researchers didn’t measure that are also associated. What they are looking at is the common consequence. So we can’t say it’s a causal association,” he said.

Parents need to realize that things outside the uterus are very important in the developing fetus, Forno said, adding, “We are only beginning to understand what goes on.”
